Method
Prepare the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water until well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool.
Prepare the Ganache
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it begins to simmer.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth and glossy.
Assemble the Cake
- Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally.
- Spread the cherry filling on the bottom layer, then place the top layer back on.
- Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Let the ganache set before slicing and serving.
