Ingredients

Coffee Rub
  • 2 tablespoons ground coffee preferably dark roast
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Steak
  • 4 ounces strip steak about 1 inch thick

Method

Prepare the Coffee Rub
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground coffee, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Prepare the Steak
  1. Pat the strip steaks dry with paper towels. Use a meat mallet to gently pound the steaks to an even thickness.
  2. Rub the coffee mixture generously over both sides of the steaks. Let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
Grill the Steaks
  1. Preheat the grill to high heat. Place the steaks on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
  2. Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare.
Rest and Serve
  1. Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides.
