Cake Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add softened butter and mix until crumbly.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
- Fold in the orange zest gently.
- Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly on top.
