Method
Prepare the onions
- Slice the red onion thinly and place it in a clean mason jar.
Make the pickling liquid
- In a saucepan, combine white vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar and salt dissolve.
Combine and cool
- Pour the hot pickling liquid over the sliced onions in the jar. Add black peppercorns, cumin seeds, and bay leaf.
- Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then seal the jar and refrigerate.
Marinate
- Allow the onions to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before using for the best flavor.
